Truthfully, I don't remember Friday night. It was sort of a recollected blur that really found a home somewhere else outside of my brain. It might have included watch the B5 movies or maybe we were off traversing portland at midnight. I have no idea. But I have fond non-memories!
During the day,
melrae,
abdul_hadi and I engaged in good old fashioned retail therapy. We tracked down Sport Authority, since we are all now initiated into the gym tradition and needed to find our ritual duds. My gym ritual duds have expanded to include teal (ye Gods) and a cute grey and white college style baby tee. My most forefront goal with these is to have clothing that my boobs do not pop out when doing aerobics or yoga. There is nothing I hate more than to bend over into "downward facing Dog" and looking into the fast region of my chest only to discover that the entire studio has gotten a solid lookey-see into the boobed inner sanctum. Mortified, eyes wide open, I try to smile and inwardly think (with Hans Solo's voice) "We're fine here, we're all fine. How are you?"
We did manage to make it to the gym in Beaverton. Two words: racket. ball. They not only have one court, they have 2!! Last time I played was with John, my ex-man, and I accidently gave him some stitches above his eye! It's a crazy sport I tell you, and only chickens play with headgear. The Beaverton Bally's is not my favorite however. The equipment lines the halls and it isn't setup very well. Luckily I go between Yamhill and Mall 205.
This leads us to Saturday. I went to the gym again to catch the Kwando Strike class. An exercise theme I think is surfacing. Felton worked our ASSES off while we sweated, ran and groaned. Then,
abdul_hadi,
maiana,
cyphersmurf,
theoden and I cleaned the garage. This was no ordinary feat. In fact, this was crazy work, for the pile was immense. Inspired by a lofty ideal that garages could actually be organized. Really! Other people actually have clean garages. This fantasy is followed only by the myth that people actually park their cars in their garages as well! Mine is a glorified storage unit!
So, 2 dump runs later, one huge goodwill pile later, a slew of dewebbing and more shelving from Costco. We have obtained a sublime degree of organization.
God I need a beer.
However, we didn't finish Saturday, we finished that on Sunday. Saturday night, we stopped about halfway (read: 6:30), washed ourselves and headed over to Zac and Bobbie's to watch Tank Girl. Now, if you haven't seen Tank Girl, you really cannot appreciate the impact of me saying this. Tank Girl IS.
I loved the movie. I wouldn't want to be her but I loved it. I admired the way that the comic was integrated into the movie. I enjoyed the characters, and I enjoyed the way that I had no idea what might happen next. I can't believe I had never even heard of this movie before
melrae invited me to go see it with her. Supposedly it has a cult following of which I was entirely unaware.
Then, we headed out to Pala's to dance. There was a record release happening that night and the DJ's were great! I love the electronica scene. Just LOVE IT. We danced most of the evening between cool off sessions. Then, about 2:30 or so, headed over to Voodoo donuts and then to a local graveyard and checked out the sights.
Sunday: See above on Garage work. Then,
theoden and
abdul_hadi and I hung with Brandie, a girl that
theoden met from work. She's fun! She has bright blue hair, skinny as all hell and has a mouth that could talk down a rhino. I like her. We drank Lemon Drops and Mint Juleps and shot the *&^%.
Then Monday
maiana,
cyphersmith,
abdul_hadi, Jay and Jedzia and I headed to Reed College to see Taming of the Shrew in the Park. 400 people literally sat on blankets and lawn chairs and watched Shakespeare. The weirdest people came as well. Portland is brilliantly eccentric.
Speaking of eccentric, I happen to love Shakespeare. It has to be the HAMMIEST form of entertainment. I am always disappointed when people do Shakespeare strutting across the stage with an English accent. The opera walk has killed more renditions of Willy's work than I care to mention. I have seen many of them done by lots of different troupes. While not all the actors carried their parts equally, this was by far the best rendition I have ever seen! While I still to this day dislike the ending speech done by Kat, I laughed through almost the whole thing. Next year, we do it again!!
The evening was topped off by watching a Fish Called Wanda, which I hadn't seen in so long, I actually didn't remember how it went. Jaimie Lee Curtis is the bomb. I haven't seen her in much lately, I am curious where she has been. It surprised me that it had John Cleese and the other guy who studdered whose voice I always associate with Monty Python ("bloody favoritism, yalp yalp"). Excuse as I scratch myself!
During the day,
